Oregon Resident, Tiffany Urban saw something that a child her age should never have seen.

Her own violent boyfriend physically abused her mother.

Tiffany knew she had to act quickly to prevent a serious incident because she was so afraid for her mother’s life.

She had an idea all of a sudden that she thought would work. She grabbed the phone and posed as a pizza delivery person to call 911.

When she called, dispatch asked, “Did you call 911 to order a pizza?” She was then informed that she had the incorrect number.

“No, no, no! Tiffany responded, “You don’t understand” as she attempted to provide her phone number and address.

Because they are trained to recognize serious issues, The dispatcher realized that something was wrong at that point. After that, officers were sent to the address she provided.

Her boyfriend had already attacked her mother when the police arrived. She had received multiple punches to the face, and he was not planning to stop punching her anytime soon. Tiffany thought quickly enough to save her mother.

The violent boyfriend was detained and arrested by police.

Fortunately, the dispatcher received specialized training to respond to these emergency calls; however, not all dispatchers receive specialized training; some do not receive any training at all.

Ideally, the state will begin training additional 911 dispatchers.
