Lumangan Beach In Nusa Penida, Bali

Lumangan Beach is an inlet with a hidden beach and a huge cave on Nusa Penida island in Bali.

The journey to Lumangan Beach takes you along the west coast of Penida, and on the way there you get some nice views of Korawa Beach and Broken Bay in the distance.

This guide will explain how you can get there, and everything you need to know before you go!

Lumangan Beach

This is a short and easy hike that only takes about 5 minutes.

After you park, a short foot path drops down a grassy ravine and suddenly you’re standing in a hidden beach with perfect turquoise water.

The craziest thing about this place is the huge sea cave. It’s probably 50 meters deep.

Sadly the cave was also filled with washed up trash and plastic bottles from the ocean. I wished I had brought a few bags so I could carry more of it out with me.

This spot is basically unknown to tourists (as of 2020), but Indonesia has a litter culture that affects all of their seas and beaches.

It’s a serious problem, and it won’t change until the local government gets more serious about it.

The water near the beach is only ankle deep, so you can wade to the cave even at high tide. At low tide, there are even some tide pools on the beach to soak in.

While you’re there, be sure to check out the nearby Korawa Beach and Bulian Beach too!

Entrance Fees

FREE as of 2020.

There’s no parking fee or entry fee here.

How To Get To Lumangan Beach

Lumangan Beach is on the west side of Nusa Penida island.

It’s accessible by car or scooter, about 1 hour drive from the main docks and accommodation in northern Penida.

Be careful if you go by scooter because the road is rough and may be dangerous in some spots if you don’t take it slow!

When you arrive at the parking area, just head down the hill. The foot path down to the beach is just a 5 minute walk!

Nusa Penida Private Driver

If you want to explore Nusa Penida in the comfort and safety of a van with a driver, my top recommendation would be GetYourGuide.

They offer a full day of driving and sightseeing in Penida (up to 8 hours) for 1-5 passengers. This tour includes the whole van + driver + petrol.

We’ve used GetYourGuide for lots of tours and activities around the world, and they’re great! Highly recommended.

Where We Stayed

We stayed at Saren Villa on the north coast of Nusa Penida, and paid 240k Rupiah ($15 USD) for a private double room with cold A/C, hot shower, and good WiFi.

This is one of the cheapest options in Penida, and it’s in a great location near the best restaurants! We were happy.

Prices may fluctuate from time to time, so just keep an eye out for a good deal.
