Sanur Beach may not rank up there with Bali’s top beaches, but it does shine (no pun intended) as one of the best sunrise spots on the island.

On my first visit to Bali I spent some time staying in Sanur, and I loved to walk over to the beach for sunrise pics if I was ever having trouble falling sleep.

The combination of a cool morning breeze, birds chirping, fishermen wading out on the reef, the Mount Agung volcano in the distance, and the overall sunrise display here is just plain magic.

Best Photo Spots

Gazebos, volcanoes, and fishing boats all make this a great place for sunrise pics.

Mount Agung and Nusa Penida are often visible in the early morning, and sometimes you can even see the distant outline of Mount Rinjani in Lombok.

One of the best photo spots is just after you exit the beach access at Jl. Pantai Karang (click here for a map). From here you have a choice of 4 different gazebos, and usually one or two boats.

Every sunrise is different, but it seems like that’s especially true at Sanur Beach.

Best Time To Go

Depending on the day and month, the sunrise time at Sanur Beach can be anywhere from 5:45 AM to 6:45 AM. You can check it on your weather app.

You’ll want to be on the beach and ready to go at least 15-30 minutes before sunrise, that way you’ll have time to find an ideal photo spot. Sometimes the best colors start before the sun even comes up.

Enjoy! It’s definitely one of the best sunrise spots in Bali.

Is It Safe?

Yes, Sanur Beach is very safe!

Bali is safe in general, and Sanur is one of the most peaceful areas of the island. I’ve brought my camera gear here in the dark many times without any worries.

Lots of people jog the path at Sanur Beach at this time, and you’ll also be in the company of plenty of other photographers taking their own sunrise pics.

Where To Stay In Sanur

Bali Private Driver & Motorbike Rental

If you want to explore Bali in the comfort and safety of a private car with an English speaking driver, my top recommendation would be GetYourGuide.

Their price is 650k Rupiah ($45 USD) for a full day of driving and sightseeing in Bali (up to 10 hours) for 1-5 passengers. That’s the total price for the whole car + driver + petrol! It’s a great deal. They also offer affordable hotel transfers from the airport.

If you’d rather travel by motorbike, they have that too. Their scooter rentals start at 140k Rupiah (~$9) and include a helmet, rain coat, and free delivery in the south Bali area.

We’ve used GetYourGuide for lots of tours and activities around the world, and they’re great! Highly recommended.
